Another cottage and I’m still within walking distance of home. This one is a lavish two bedroom affair, with integral cow shed, and original shutters still on the windows. It looks down over a sloping meadow to the back.
given that its on a road (albeit a small one) and open, it is remarkably unvandalised, although a few bits and pieces seem to have been liberated in the name of architectural salvage..
I hope these lovely houses becomes homes again one day
Don’t the houses look sad? Are they just empty or are they for sale Steve?
They’re just empty – some of them for years now. Having spoken to the brother of the guy who owns the white one, I don’t think it has crossed their mind that anyone might want to live in an old place, although the various locals who have been in ours are usually surprised that its capable of being light, warm and dry, so maybe we’ll make a few converts.
When we bought this, it was being sold as an opportunity to demolish and replace with something ‘nice and modern’, and a good few people have said how relieved they are that it has survived.
I have a vague plan to try and either persuade the owners to rent them out for a nominal rent in return for the tentant making them habitable, or renting one myself, and making it habitable with the help of volunteers so that we can use it for a combination of off grid self catering and volunteer accommodation. They generally have water but no electricity, but we’re used to overcoming little problems like that.
Will try and get a look around the white one next week, and assess it.
My reasoning is that if owners are offered easy solutions that bring in a few quid they are likely to go for it, as they generally don’t know what to do with these places other than make building sites out of them.
