Well at last we managed to sell enough things to pay for some flooring in the build. Clarke Cunningham supplied us with some rather fine Douglas Fir boards, which look great, although they aren’t fixed down yet. They’re windproofed from underneath, and well insulated with 6″ of recycled material. The next job is to do just that, after which we can crack on and set the straw bales inside the walls, and then it is time for the messy bit. First the bales have to be trimmed, and then coated with clay slip, to give a sound base to plaster onto. Then we’ll make some sample plasters up with clay, sand, and one or two other special ingredients, to see which work best.

It’s great to have an indoor workspace for when the weather outside is horrible, and so far (fingers crossed), our roof seems to be keeping the weather where it should be, and inside is really rather warm and dry.
