Build a compost loo – 22-23 April 2017

On this course we’ll look at the basics of composting humanure, types of compost loo, do’s and dont’s and we’ll be building a ‘treebog’ type composting toilet over the course of 2 days. You’ll be learning basic rustic timber building using local wany edged boards, and recycled wood. This is a simple low cost design that can easily be replicated or adapted to suit your needs.

Join us in our birch woodland as we explore how we can interact in a more meaningful way with our natural surroundings, with tutor Lucy O’Hagan. This course is designed for those with none or limited bushcraft knowledge but who are interested in the subject.Topics covered will include; Learn how to make a fire using simple and reliable methods Find out more about foraging and how we can use the plants and trees around us Safe tool use, including knife work, will be explained and practised We will explore animal tracks and signs and find out more about the animals who share the woods with us.

I’m off to Mayo in September to teach this Rocket Mass Heater workshop, where you will learn about the design parameters for making a cob RMH, and will assist in the full construction of a functional heater, from creating an insulated base to laying out the chimney, from assembling the fire brick core to mixing and laying the cob.

Payment

Payment must be made prior to attending a course, if you wish to place a deposit of £20 to secure a place this is acceptable, although deposits are non-refundable and the balance must be paid no less than 28 days prior to the date of the course. We do not accept cheques, please make payment online. If you have difficulty making a payment online please contact us to discuss.

Cancellation

If you cannot attend a course that you have booked onto, please let us know as soon as possible, as places are in demand and tutors plan for a certain number of attendees. We contact all attendees by email in the week before the course with a reminder but it is the attendees responsibility to ensure that they know the date and time of the course they have booked on.

28 days prior to event - we will issue a refund or transfer you to another course if you wish.

Less than 28 days prior to event - 50% refund.

7 days or less from event / non attendance - no refund.

Course cancellations

Courses will normally go ahead even if the weather is less than ideal, but if we have to cancel for any reason, you will be offered a full refund or a place on an alternative course if you wish. We accept no liability for additional costs incurred as a result of course cancellations.

Dietary Requirements

If you have any special dietary requirements or allergies please let us know at the time of your booking. All food served at courses is vegetarian.

Pets

Please leave dogs at home - no exceptions.

Visitors – We are always happy to welcome visitors as long as you contact us in advance. Much as we love dogs, we ask that you leave them at home as we have free ranging animals and children around the farm. Smoking is not permitted anywhere here.
