It may be mid summer, but now is the time to be thinking about where next winters fuel is going to come from, and so I’ve been busy in the woods, cutting and splitting a huge fallen ash tree. Ash is fantastic stuff, because it does burn green, unlike many woods, but reducing the moisture content through seasoning will make it better again.
There is something very satisfying about having a good stock of firewood – although at the moment the woodburner just provides a heating source, and somewhere to boil a kettle, I’m hoping to make some additions that will provide some hot water, and excitingly some electricity….Apparently we might get enough to put an amp or two into the batteries when the fire is lit, which in the winter will be just the boost that we need when there is a lot less sunlight and the solar pv is less useful.
