Isabelle and Josiane have come from Quebec, Canada to volunteer on the farm for 3 weeks, and having spend days clearing and mulching young trees, they are turning their attentions to creating a fence from the piles of birch trimmings that have been sitting in the woods since winter.

They are weaving smaller material through the posts to create what we hope will be a chicken proof barrier to protect the veg beds, replacing the horrible orange electric netting that we’ve had to use to keep the place safe from the birds.

We’re intending to plant a living willow fence behind the birch so that in time we can weave it together, and eventually once the birch has had its day, the living fence can take over.
