Usually we take great pride in our ability to dig, shift, lift and cart large amounts of stuff using only human power, and it’s very satisfying. However, the mess that was our old extension contained lumps of concrete so large that it was time to resort to mechanical means. Boy am I glad we did. In four hours, Victor and Robert shifted what would have taken us weeks, with their huge digger. The bucket is nearly as high as the back wall…

The cottage is a bit on the fragile side, and my heart was in my mouth a few times, though Robert was incredibly careful.
The view from inside wasn’t a lot more reassuring…
And here it is, cleared and ready for something a bit more interesting, although we’re not entirely sure what just yet. It’s south facing so that will influence things somewhat.
