We’ve always been passionate about increasing awareness of the many environmental issues that face us all, and a major part of that is through our self catering accommodation here at Lackan. Visitors can see that is is possible to reduce their environmental impact and still live in a beautiful, comfortable space. As pioneers of ‘eco tourism’ in Northern Ireland, we’re always looking for ways to increase the profile of green living.

The Green Key programme, run by the Foundation for Environmental Education who also run the Eco Schools and Blue Flag beach schemes, is an excellent way to do just that, and we’re proud to announce that we have just become the very first Green Key accredited business in Northern Ireland (or on the island of Ireland). We’ve been working with Finn Bolding-Thomsen, Director of Green Key, and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful to complete the inspection and accreditation process and will be helping other businesses to follow suit.

Environmental edication is at the heart of our work at Lackan Cottage Farm. While they are here, visitors get the opportunity to have a look around and see that natural materials, fossil fuel free homes, permaculture design and intelligent use of resources are all ideas that they can take away and introduce into their own lives.
