Somehow in amongst the other work, I managed to gut our truck, which was home for 18 months, and has subsequently been the residence of many volunteers. It ended last season desperately in need of a refurb, but even I was surprised just how much work it has taken to turn it into a really nice place to stay. Now it is complete inside, I want to move back in.

My favourite bit is the box bed, with its huge circular window looking out towards the Mourne mountains. The whole of the back end of the truck is lined out and built with pallet timber, which gives it a really interesting texture and warm feel.

The Stanley stove has a back boiler which heats enough hot water for plenty of showers, and keeps the space toasty warm.

The kitchen has had a complete refit, and now has a proper gas oven. Power in the truck still comes from solar and batteries to power lights, a small inverter for mains, and phone chargers.

There’s a snug bed above the cab that sleeps two as well, and lots of seating in the kitchen/diner.

The new ‘treebog’ composting loo is just outside and we’ve been busy landscaping the area around it. The outside of the truck will get painted shortly, and then it’ll be ready for people to come and stay in.
