BBC1 – Escape to the country

Ruth and Stuart appeared on Escape to the Country as they were moving from Hartlepool to Ireland in search of a smallholding. Our part in the programme was as an example of having set up a self catering business as part of a smallholding. We spent a busy  afternoon filming with Ruth, Stuart and the crew, and were really happy with the amount of time they spent on Birch Cottage.

BBC1 – Britain’s Home Truths

This programme with Gloria Hunniford explored the relationship between people and homes. Having grown up in an old cottage much like this one, Gloria came to see how we have managed to adapt our home to retain the best of the old, whilst having 21st century conveniences. This perhaps wasn’t entirely her cup of tea but she was a lovely lady, kept us right on camera, and we were really pleased with the outcome.

Channel 4 – Rachel Allen: A Cook’s Adventure

We really enjoyed being part of this – Rachel Allen looking at the best produce Northern Ireland has to offer on a journey around the country. Our potatoes and chives put in an appearance in the champ, served with beef, and we got to talk briefly about what we get up to here at Lackan. Not a very good quality version of the video but the best we can muster at the moment.

RTE – The great house revival

This programme followed someone restoring an old cottage, and along the way, presenter Hugh Wallace came to see how we’d done ours on a tiny budget, and what materials we’d used. We talked lime-hemp, about our use of local, natural materials, and how our lack of funds led us to be creative in our build.
