Sustainable Building
Birch cottage is built using natural materials, sourced locally wherever possible and always ethically. The building is heavily insulated using woodfibre and sheep’s wool, plastered using lime, and decorated with limewash and clay paints, and food safe timber treatments for floors.
Heating and hot water are provided by a combination of solar thermal panels and a woodburner. Underfloor heating, and individually temperature zones for each room mean that it is possible to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the building as efficiently as possible.
All the flooring, kitchens, bathroom and storage are hand made using timber that has been sourced as locally as possible, and give a unique feel to the cottage interior.
