Birch Cottage features in the Guardian’s 15 of the best places to stay off grid in the UK – ‘Off grid living with creature comforts’.
Since then we’ve improved the cottage still further by adding more solar, so that the house is less reliant on woodfuel for water heating.

The increase in interest in off grid living is being driven by the widespread realisation that we have to change the way we live, and that making those changes can actually lead to an improvement in quality of life. Birch Cottage uses no fossil fuels for heating or hot water, and is powered entirely using on site renewables – sun and wind.
