After my last post on Cloughjordan – the eco-village that isn’t, I couldn’t help wondering that surely I couldn’t be alone in thinking that it was a soulless place that really had missed the point. Turns out I was right. There is even a website devoted to it – www.cloughjordan.net.
Oddly the writer of this article, exposing the inherent problems surrounding the development even chose the same word as me to describe the place  ‘Gulag’.
Don’t get me wrong, the centralised heating system, solar array, and growing spaces are fantastic, but the buildings are dreadful. It isn’t even the half finished site – as a child I grew up near Milton Keynes and remember how bare the now green city once was, it is just that so much more imagination seems to have been vested in materials and systems than aesthetics.
