After my recent visit to Bantry to learn some more about working horses, it was time to get things moving here at home, and so Rain has gone off to hoof camp for a couple of weeks in Glengormley, with John McDermott, to learn how to pull things. After a week he is making great progress, and has taken to harness well. So far he’s pulled the slipe (like a wooden sledge) and some chain harrows, and we’re off to see him on Tuesday. Another week before he comes home, and we begin practising on our own. Then he’ll be back for some more training in the new year. Here he is in action –

and with the slipe –
