WP_000965The runner beans are now so tall that we are picking them with a ladder, although they are dwarfed by the winter squash, which still threatens to take over the entire west end of the polytunnel.

Outside, broad beans, onions, kale are all doing well, as we consider having to water them – something we didn’t think would happen here this year, after one of the wettest years on record.

veg1The evening pea, bean, courgette and cucumber haul.  In our first year it is extremely satisfying to be able to enjoy our own veg, and we have a lot to thank horse manure for.  Now our attention is turning to creating a water harvesting system that will enable us to be self sufficient in water for irrigation.
