After two years I’ve finally succumbed to covid, so am waiting out my quarantine by updating some of the information on the website. First up is the roundhouse – a project that at one point I thought would never end. After a quick start, the thought of having to sieve the stones out of a couple of tonnes of clay put off any further progress, and so the building languished, increasingly full of junk. Then I was offered some really, really good clay by our friend Dagmara, and so decided to have a push and get it all done. Now as we head into spring, the last of the plaster is drying, and all that will remain is to paint the inside with clay paint, and the outside with some limewash. (I think). There’s a temptation to keep the natural colour of the clay but then it needs protected. We’ll see. For the updated project post follow this link
The roundhouse as it was for several years. I knew that plastering in those tyres was going to take a bit of doing…
Anyhow, I’ve updated the project post for the roundhouse now, which shows the entire process from the very start. Below – here’s where we are at now, nearly dry.
Firstly I hope you are not too ill and recover quickly. Having been invilved with the roundhouse build at Dfed Permaculture Farm I know it takes ages! Some bits go quickly and there uis good progress and others take for ever! As with any build the finishing touches are almost the worst. They are lovely buildings and yours is looking magnificent. What are you planning to use it for? Or was it just a nice thing to build and have and a use will find it in due course?
It’s become my workshop Sue, and it’ll get used when we have courses. It should seat 8 ish people easily, and once we’ve built a new compost loo nearby it will be pretty self contained, so we can do any things with visitors down there.
